Splintered Past

‘past pain’ is Googled 450,000 times per month.

I thought I was
over this
jumping fences
just so I could get a glimpse
of your absent strength
outline of perfect form
against the backdrop of
moments that
I replay
with painful precision.
But I’m here again
peering through your splintered
past
Hoping I’m one
of your better memories
like light shining through
falling houses
I need you to believe
we can rebuild
Gingerbread moments
of festive love
that replay in our minds
even after we’ve said
goodbye.
